Lockout could be particularly harmful to veterans Amar'e Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups

"It was one year ago today that James Dolan was trying to convince LeBron James to sign with the Knicks. Today, Dolan is wondering when his team will get a chance to compete against LeBron again.

The NBA lockout has every player, coach and team in limbo. There is no telling when or if basketball will be played again next season. I get the sense that once players begin missing paychecks – the first will be Nov. 15 – then things will get seriously again. I don't think the players have the will power to sit out an entire season.

A repeat of 1999, when the season was just 50 games, is a strong possibility. And that wouldn't necessarily be such a good thing for the Knicks. The 50-game schedule included back-to-back-to-back games which were a killer for Patrick Ewing. Although the Knicks made the NBA Finals that year, Ewing's body gave out in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals and he missed the remainder of the playoffs.

The Knicks have a young roster and most of the players could handle a condensed schedule. But I'm not so sure about Chauncey Billups and Amar'e Stoudemire, two veteran players who both ended last season injured."
