Liverpool are ready to sell Jonjo Shelvey to Swansea - if the Welshmen come up with £5million.

The Swans have opened talks with the Reds' boss Brendan Rodgers - who managed the Liberty Stadium side himself until a year ago - about buying the England Under-21 midfielder.

It has been decided Shelvey can go as part of the Anfield giants' summer shake-up, and Swansea see him as a player who can add bite to their slick-passing playing style.

Shelvey’s availability has also alerted other clubs, but League Cup winners Swansea are showing the biggest interest and a compromise could be reached in the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins is making a £4m bid for Espanyol’s Ghanaian midfielder Wakaso Mubarak.

The 22-year-old, a small but athletic star in La Liga is known for his fiery attitude on and off the pitch and was released by his first club, Elche, because of disciplinary problems.

Jenkins, who is pushing ahead with bids for players despite a simmering feud with manager Michael Laudrup, also wants a striker and a centre-half.
