Liverpool are trailing teenage striker Kevin Mendez - after a glowing report from his countryman and current Reds hitman Luis Suarez.

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and the Anfield giants all scouted the forward, who is currently on the books of Uruguayan heavyweights Penarol, in last summer's Under-17s World Cup.

It is believed that the Reds could get him for as little as £3m, but they will have to see off strong competition from a host of European heavyweights to do so, including Barca.

The Catalan capital has become a home away from home for some of the best that South America has to offer in recent years, with Brazilians Neymar and Dani Alves, Chilean Alexis Sanchez and of course Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, already plying their trade in the famous red and blue.

Nou Camp boss Gerardo Martino could step in for the starlet in January, as he looks to maintain his side's grip on La Liga where they currently sit top of the table.

Rivals Atletico and Italian giants Inter are also believed to be monitoring the situation, meaning the Reds are sure to have to fight tooth and nail to get their man.
