Lions' Shaun Hill familiar with backup QB role

"Aside from some understandable fawning over second-year starter Matthew Stafford, Lions quarterbacks have flown mostly under the radar 3 1/2 weeks into training camp.

There's no quarterback controversy, no competition for jobs, no drama of any kind.

"This is kind of the way you like it," offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said. "If you expect to be good, that's the way it needs to be."

Unlike last year, when Stafford and Daunte Culpepper entered camp competing for the starting job, there's no questioning the quarterback hierarchy this year.

Stafford is the clear-cut No. 1, now and for the foreseeable future. Shaun Hill is the experienced backup. And Drew Stanton the emergency No. 3.

For Hill, who won a preseason battle with Alex Smith for the starting job in San Francisco last year, there's a different feel but a familiar approach to camp this fall."
