"Lions running back Kevin Smith will visit noted orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday. Smith said he expects to undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

"I go tomorrow, so hopefully I won't leave Alabama without having the surgery," Smith said after the Lions' 31-24 loss to Arizona on Sunday. "And hopefully I come back a new man. ... I'm just ready to get surgery and get back."

Smith suffered the torn ACL in the fourth quarter of last week's loss at Baltimore. He was off crutches by Wednesday, and the team was encouraged by how quickly the swelling subsided in his left knee, paving the way for this week's expected surgical procedure."
