"With the Lions trailing 24-10 in the third quarter, tempers began to flare at the Metrodome on Sunday.
Vikings defensive end Brian Robison sacked quarterback Shaun Hill on a third-down play, but neither side left the field as numerous players appeared to throw some punches.
"All I could say about that is, we are not going to be anybody's punk out there, you know what I mean?" Hill said. Among the altercations near the Lions' 20-yard line included Hill and Vikings defensive end Jared Allen going at it.
All Hill said after the game was "there was something going on."
"It just got a little hot and heavy," said Lions guard Rob Sims, who also was in the mix. "It wasn't anything too serious. It's just being competitive."
Both teams received offsetting unnecessary roughness penalties.
But tight end Tony Scheffler said he thinks there could be fines to come, which is why he stayed on the sideline.
The fighting didn't stop there. On the Vikings' next offensive play, wide receiver Greg Camarillo and running back Adrian Peterson both had words with Lions' cornerback Chris Houston."
