"Lions quarterback Shaun Hill wondered Tuesday if he would ever feel completely normal again, and he wasn't talking about his back, which is healing after minor surgery last Wednesday.
On Jan. 31, Hill and his father were working on the roof of a barn at Hill's home in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., when Ted Hill fell to his death.
"I still think about him every day," Hill said. "You do wonder if you will ever feel normal again, but at the end the day I feel like, I had 31 years with an unbelievable father and I am very blessed about that."
Ted Hill, 60, coached Shaun three years at Parsons High in Kansas. He was also the basketball coach.
"He taught me everything," Hill said. "My elementary school was right next to the high school. He was the offensive line coach and I was out there every day. He was the head basketball coach and I was in the gym every day. That was my baby-sitter, watching practice.
"It's funny, he still wanted to be my coach, even after I got to the NFL. Sometimes I would almost hate to talk to him on Sundays. Now I wish I could again."
His father was at Ford Field on Jan. 2 and watched Shaun lead the Lions to a victory over the Vikings. Shaun gave his father the game ball afterward."
