"Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith is from Miami and he'd like to return home.

According to a story in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Smith was in Miami working out on his own when he asked a reporter to deliver a message to the Miami Dolphins: "Come get me.''

The one minor hitch to that, of course, is that Smith is a three-year veteran and even under a new collective bargaining agreement, he's expected to be an restricted free agent. To leave the Lions, who have shown no inclination to allow him to leave, Smith would have to get the Dolphins to come up with draft pick compensation. That's not likely, considering Smith's overall yardage has declined in each of his three seasons and he's finished the last two years on the injured reserve list."
