"Dallas Cowboys receiver Roy Williams is scheduled to be on a conference call today with Detroit reporters. The colorful former Lion is sure to say something funny, insightful or inciting about Sunday's matchup against his former team.
Williams might even rope former Lions quarterback and current Cowboys starter Jon Kitna into the conversation.
But it won't matter. Those heady days in Detroit when Kitna passed for 4,000 yards and Williams gained 1,300 yards are as long gone as are most of their ex-teammates.
Williams, 28, and Kitna, 38, are in their declining years. Williams was a Pro Bowler in Detroit, but he's only the third receiver in Dallas. Kitna is a space-holder for the injured Tony Romo.
So what's left of their legacy in Detroit? Little more than memories -- and fuzzy ones at that. Lions running back Kevin Smith was a rookie in 2008 when Williams and Kitna last played for the Lions, and he seemed to struggle when asked about the motivations Williams and Kitna might have facing the team that traded them away.
"I don't know how fired up they'll be," Smith said Monday. "They're not really winning as much, but I'm pretty sure they have something to prove to the Detroit Lions, if that's their goal. But I don't really see this game as being any different for them as far as them just trying to get a W."
Center Dominic Raiola quashed the same subject."
