Robert Lewandowski appeared to finally confirm on Tuesday that he will sign for Bayern Munich in January ending any hope that the Borussia Dortmund striker may move to the Premier League.

Lewandowski has long been linked to Manchester United while Chelsea and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest. However the Pole was always expected to leave Dortmund for Munich.

When asked by Christian Ortlepp of SPORT1 if he could say the move was happening Lewandowski answered per 101 Great Goals: “Yes because then I can officially sign a contract. Officially I can only say something in January. At this moment it is still too early. We still have to wait a bit.”

By swapping one German giant for another Lewandowski will follow in the footsteps of former teammate Mario Gotze by turning his back on Dortmund.

Last year’s Champions League final was contested by the two German clubs with Lewandowski in Dortmund yellow but his change of allegiance will likely place a gulf between the sides this term.
