"The Arizona Cardinals have begun calling teams with quarterback needs to gauge interest in Matt Leinart, the former first-round pick and Heisman Trophy winner at Southern California who has repeatedly failed to seize the Cardinals' starting job.
Leinart appears to have been supplanted by Derek Anderson, who was released by the Cleveland Browns in the off-season.
Among the teams the Cardinals called were the Giants, who need an experienced backup for Eli Manning after putting Jim Sorgi on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday. Talks with the Giants did not go far, though, according to a person with knowledge of the talks. The Giants have no real interest in Leinart, who has made clear in interviews that he wants to be a starter."
