LeBron James stresses ongoing Heat commitment

"Miami Heat forward LeBron James offered clarity Friday when it came to his comments Thursday about one day perhaps returning as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In advance of Friday night's game at Quicken Loans Arena, James said there should be no concern in South Florida about his commitment to the Heat or imminent concern about the possibility he could opt out of his contract in the 2014 offseason.

"Nah, they shouldn't be worried at all," he said. "I love the fans in Miami and I'm here. The question was basically could I see myself playing back here. I said, 'yeah,' in the sense of I don't know what my future holds and I don't want to take that out, but I mean I love the fans of Miami and I got everything invested with this team and I'm looking forward to the years to come."

James left the Cavaliers in July 2010 amid considerable acrimony, since expressing regret about some aspects of the way he handled the departure. He signed a six-year contract with the Heat that has escape clauses for each of the final two seasons.

To a degree, his Thursday comments raised question of whether South Florida now is in the midst of the type of "LeBron Watch" that those in Northeastern Ohio dealt with during the final years of his Cavaliers contract.

"I mean I'm already on 'LeBron Watch,' " he said with a smile. "For the most part, everything I do is a 'LeBron Watch.' Like I said, my mindset is on this season. My mindset is on helping this team win a championship and continuing to get better every day. And I'm looking forward to getting back to Miami and seeing the fans."

Following Friday's 111-87 victory over the Cavaliers, when asked about a report that he or someone close to him had reached out to Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert about a Cavaliers reunion down the road in free agency, James said, "It's not true, it's not true at all.""
