The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without their top defenceman for the next couple games.

Dion Phaneuf was suspended two games following his phone hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety for a hit from behind on Boston Bruins defenceman Kevan Miller on Sunday.

Late in the Leafs' 5-2 loss to Boston, Phaneuf checked Miller from behind into the boards behind the Bruins net. There was no penalty called on the play.

This is Phaneuf's first suspension of his career.
