Brett Lawrie is one step closer to joining the Toronto Blue Jays.

The third baseman has joined the triple-A Buffalo Bisons on the fourth and presumably final stop of his rehabilitation assignment. The Bisons announced that Lawrie will be with the team Tuesday night.

The Blue Jays placed Lawrie on the disabled list with a left ankle sprain May 29. He has already played for three of the organization’s minor league affiliates during his rehab stint: Dunedin, Lansing and New Hampshire.

Lawrie appeared in 37 games with the Blue Jays before injuring his ankle. The 23-year-old is hitting .209/.268/.374 with five home runs.
