Latest Flynn plan calls for rest

"The Wolves have decided -- and Jonny Flynn agrees -- that it's time for a little rest.

Flynn, the second-year point guard coming back from hip surgery to repair an injured labrum, did not play Wednesday against the Clippers. He will rest through the All-Star break and perhaps miss the first two games after the break.

It's not that there is a new injury, though Flynn has been experiencing some soreness in his groin. It's just that the team feels Flynn -- who has been working overtime to come back ever since the July surgery -- would benefit from rest.

"There is a comfort level you see players playing with, and he doesn't look very comfortable out there," Wolves coach Kurt Rambis said. "We're trying to do something to make him feel comfortable out there. He agrees, he admits it."

Flynn, who refused to call this a step back, did agree, to a point. "I would say I don't feel comfortable in this body I have right now," he said. "These are rental legs right now. We're going to see how this works out. Hopefully I'll be feeling a lot better after this break."

Perhaps the extra work Flynn put in before and after practices since his return after missing the first 24 games has taken its toll. And with no precedent for guards with this sort of injury and surgery, it's hard to know where Flynn should be at this point.

Flynn said he thought the short break would speed up his recovery. Flynn, who had to play big minutes when Luke Ridnour -- who started Wednesday -- was away tending to a family matter, said the increase in minutes was not to blame. He just wants to lose the soreness he's been dealing with, day-to-day, since his return. "At the end of the day it's a decision trying to get me back faster, to the legs I had last year.""
