Larry Johnson's workload could depend on score

"In late October we had the Benson Bowl. Sunday could be the Johnson Bowl, as Larry Johnson faces his former team for the first time, though the chances of that happening hinge on whether the Bengals can put away the Chiefs early.

Coach Marvin Lewis has said he would like to get Johnson more carries over the last two weeks of the regular season, but the Bengals still do not have a playoff spot wrapped up. And Cedric Benson is still the Bengals' main back and figures to get most of the meaningful carries.

If the Bengals get up by a couple of scores early, it could be Johnson's chance to get revenge in the same way Benson did against the Bears.

After signing with the Bengals on Nov. 17, Johnson hinted he would like such an opportunity, but he has tried to temper his remarks this past week.

"I might end up with 30 carries; I might get four. Whatever happens, happens," Johnson said when asked what it would be like to run against his former team. "It will be nice to see the guys that I played with and went through training camp with and the young guys I tried to mentor a little bit. It will be nice to try to see them and talk to them Sunday."

Running back Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs expect to see the best of Johnson today.

"He's going to play hard. I know he's going to go out there and play," Charles told Kansas City reporters this week. "LJ always has a chip on his shoulder. I know he's going to play well."

Despite seeing only 11 carries in the three games since he ran for 107 yards in the Week 12 win against Cleveland, Johnson has displayed signs of breaking big runs. Last week against San Diego, he reversed field for a 27-yard gain. With Johnson's knowledge of the Chiefs, big gains could be possible again today."
