Kyle Orton enjoys defeating the Broncos

"The look on Kyle Orton?'s face as he ran down the ramp from the field to the Kansas City Chiefs?' locker room at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Sunday said it all. Even though the quarterback said facing his former team was nothing special, the smile on his face made you think his team, not the Broncos, won a division championship.

"This wasn't the biggest win of my career," Orton said. " It was a good win for us as a team. It was a great way to end the year and move into next year."

Orton had an OK day, completing 15-of-29 passes for 180 yards with no interceptions. That was enough to win on a day when the Broncos' offense was inept.

"It was a fun game," Orton said. "I thought it was easy. We kind of got into a good flow early in the game. We moved the ball and got into a rhythm. In the second half, we tried to hang onto the football and be smart."

The rhythm Orton talked about was a slow waltz, a 13-play, 90-yard drive that took 6:22 to complete and ended with Dexter McCluster?'s 21-yard scoring run late in the first quarter. The Chiefs' defense made the lead stand.

Orton was clearly a happy man in his return to Denver, where he started the season, after a victory over the team that released him in late November.

"There was a little more to it today," Orton said. "No doubt about it. I can't hide that. I congratulate them (Broncos) and look forward to next year."

Said Chiefs coach Romeo Crennel: "I think it was just another week for him, and he tried to approach it like that. He treated it as if everybody on the team had to do their job to give us the best chance to win."

Orton said he was busy seeking out old Broncos friends as players mingled on the field, but he didn't catch up with coach John Fox or Tim Tebow?. "
