Lots of names have shown up in rumored trades this winter. Jason Kubel is one of them. He's one of seemingly dozens who the Orioles have discussed, and over the past two days, there's been renewed chatter about them.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Arizona Diamondbacks want to decide by Friday whether to keep the 30-year-old left-handed hitting outfielder or Justin Upton, who's been one of the hot names in the rumor mix.

While Kubel would be a nice addition in left field or as designated hitter, the Orioles are determined not to give up some of their top prospects for him.

If Arizona's asking price is dropping, it's possible the Orioles might be a match. They're not going to get Dylan Bundy or Kevin Gausman, but perhaps they could get Jake Arrieta and Zach Britton.

The names the Orioles have to offer don't seem to have changed much from earlier this off-season.

If they're adding Kubel, who hit 30 homers last year, that's an additional $7.5 million this year plus an option at the same price for next year. Obtaining him might make re-signing Joe Saunders tricky.

Saunders is supposed to make a decision on his next team soon, and the Kubel deal could be moot if Atlanta, which signed Justin's brother B.J., traded for Upton.v
