Louis van Gaal is keen on Ajax centre-back Joel Veltman if he gets the Spurs job.

The talented 22-year-old, given his first international cap by the Holland coach, has also attracted the attention of Chelsea and Manchester United.

But Van Gaal - among several names being considered for the Spurs job - has the edge having worked with the player and is now set to take him to the World Cup.

Ajax Director Marc Overmars has already vowed to fight to hold on to Veltman during this summer’s transfer window.

The club are closing in on the Dutch title with the club enjoying the best defensive record in the Eredivisie.
