"Behind mostly rookies and backups, the Eagles were winning Sunday with less than a minute to play until Stephen McGee's four-yard touchdown pass to Jason Witten with 55 seconds to play made it 14-13 and won the game for the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field in the season finale.
It was a meaningless game for the Eagles, who had already secured the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and couldn't improve their seed. They'll play the sixth-seeded Packers at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in the wild-card round.
The reason
The Eagles, who rested most of their starters, held the Cowboys to just seven offensive points but showed why they have the NFL's worst red-zone defense. They let the Cowboys drive downfield late in the game and punch in the game-winning touchdown with an easy connection from McGee to Witten.
The Cowboys also bullied the Eagles' offense, getting a 17-yard touchdown return on a fumble recovery by DeMarcus Ware.
The big picture
The Eagles got what they needed -- a break for their starters. Michael Vick, most importantly, didn't play and rested his banged-up thigh.
DeSean Jackson, Asante Samuel, Winston Justice and a bunch of other prominent players nursing injuries had some extra time to heal up in preparation for a postseason run.
The fact that nickel cornerback Joselio Hanson and middle linebacker Jamar Chaney didn't play suggest that they could be starters for the postseason.
Offensive stud: Undrafted rookie wideout Chad Hall caught six passes for 84 yards and and gets major props for his "Linc Leap' after catching his first career touchdown pass.
Offensive dud: In perhaps his final game as an Eagle, quarterback Kevin Kolb was sacked six times, hurried frequently and threw three interceptions for a 37.0 passer rating."
