"Tight end Chris Cooley's sore knee will keep him out of the Washington Redskins' preseason opener on Friday night, but quarterback John Beck still has not been ruled out.
Given that Beck was limited in practice Wednesday morning and hasn't fully practiced since straining his groin on Saturday, it seems highly unlikely that he would play against the Pittsburgh Steelers at FedEx Field. However, Shanahan left open the possibility that Beck might.
"I think he is getting a little bit better," Shanahan said. "He looked better today, but we're not going to play him unless he feels like he's close to 100 percent."
Beck said his groin felt better Wednesday than the previous two days but wouldn't say whether he will play.
"[Shanahan] is holding the decision," he said.
Meanwhile, Cooley's ailing left knee kept him out of practice again Wednesday."
