Kinsler draws one-game suspension

"Ian Kinsler's quest to join his teammates following Nelson Cruz's dramatic walk-off home run on Friday is going to come at a cost.

Kinsler, who was ejected earlier in the game for arguing balls and strikes, was hit with a one-game suspension and fined an undisclosed amount for coming on the field to celebrate with his teammates following the game.

Kinsler appealed the suspension, and was in the starting lineup Tuesday night.

"I think it's a little unreasonable," Kinsler said. "It's not too much common sense. They have the rule in place. They have rules for a reason I guess. I don't know what the reason is, but they obviously put them in place."

Kinsler was suspended for violating Official Baseball Rule 4.07. He returned to the field while Cruz was rounding the bases. According to the rule, when a player is ejected, he shall leave the field immediately and take no further part in that game. He also has to remain well removed from the bench or bullpen.

Kinsler was watching the game in the video room in the tunnel that leads from the dugout to the clubhouse. When Cruz hit his 13th-inning homer to give the Texas Rangers a 6-5 win over the New York Yankees, Kinsler joined the on-field celebration. He didn't know he was violating the rules because he thought the game was over."
