"The last time the Kings played in United Center, they fell behind by 35 points in the third quarter but won thanks to a big rally led by Tyreke Evans.
Evans was back Monday night, but he was not playing. And what he saw only made him want to get back on the court sooner.
The Kings were pummeled by the Chicago Bulls, 132-92, Monday night. The Kings endured their worst defeat of the season a day after their biggest win of the season, a 32-point rout at Minnesota.
Evans missed his 18th consecutive game as he recovers from plantar fasciitis in his left foot. What Evans watched from the bench only made him want to play sooner.
"If it was up to me, I'd be back right now," Evans said. "But it's up to the trainers. That's what they're here for."
Friday at Indiana is the target date for Evans to return in what coach Paul Westphal said would be "limited" minutes.
Evans will play 3-on-3 today with teammates to assess his progress, which has gone well since being cleared to practice after a doctor's visit last Tuesday.
Evans had been bothered by pain in his foot all season before sitting out this stretch of games, which included three "shockwave" treatments.
"It's been feeling healthy," Evans said of his left foot. "I haven't had pain when I wake up in the morning. I've been running, planting on the wood and it's been feeling good."
While Evans' presence probably would not have been enough to hold off the Bulls on Monday, having him back can't hurt.
As has been the case in many of their losses, the Kings hurt themselves.
The Kings committed 22 turnovers that led to 35 Chicago points. The mistakes helped the Bulls shoot 61.3 percent, the best for a Kings opponent this season. The Bulls also made 12 of 17 three-pointers, a 70.6 percent rate that also was a high for an opponent this season."
