Last season it was Chelsea's Eden Hazard and now this year it appears to be Riyad Mahrez, struggling under the apparent curse of being named the PFA Player of the Year.

The weight of expectation is hanging heavily on Leicester’s star winger and Claudio Ranieri, the manager, is now surely facing the conundrum of whether to take him out of the firing line.

Mahrez was rated at over £50million in the summer, a price which scared off clubs including Arsenal, and when he signed a new £100,000 a week contract in August it seemed as if the Algerian’s career would only carry on its upward curve.

But this season is proving a uphill battle and his performance at Watford was another frustrating afternoon as Leicester’s domestic form continues to bewilder.
