Caldwell County junior quarterback Elijah Sindelar turned down a chance to play at Kentucky when he made his verbal commitment today to Purdue, where he was recruited by former UK receiver Gerad Parker.

“I kind of felt like that was going to happen, but I wasn’t sure,” Caldwell coach David Barnes said. “He contacted Purdue this afternoon and told them.”

Sindelar, who shuns the limelight, had his coach, father, girlfriend and a local newspaper reporter present at his announcement.

“He said the engineering at Purdue was a big thing. He got to go through that and was really sold on what he got to see,” Barnes said.

Barnes knows some might think Sindelar was overwhelmed about the pressure at Kentucky or the presence of Drew Barker.
