"Apparently Scott Kazmir's left shoulder isn't strong enough to maintain his tenuous grip on a spot in the Angels starting rotation.
A few days after Manager Mike Scioscia said Kazmir would remain in that rotation coming out of the All-Star break, the left-hander was placed on the disabled list Sunday because of shoulder fatigue before he could make his first start after the break.
Kazmir likely will be replaced by Sean O'Sullivan for his scheduled start Tuesday in New York. O'Sullivan allowed one run on six hits in five innings Thursday in his start for Triple-A Salt Lake.
Right-hander Trevor Bell is also an option but went six innings Friday for Salt Lake and would be pitching on short rest against the potent Yankees lineup.
At the same time Kazmir was moved to the DL on Sunday, the Angels activated infielder Maicer Izturis. Izturis went 1 for 4 Sunday and played shortstop for Salt Lake on his minor league injury-rehabilitation assignment. Izturis was 2 for 7 in two partial games on that rehab assignment and will join the Angels in New York on Tuesday."
