Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen (concussion) continued to practice Saturday and said he is feeling closer to normal.

He will travel with the team to Winnipeg, but is not expected to play on Sunday. In addition, Cristopher Nilstorp also will travel with the team, keeping Lehtonen as the third goalie.

“He’s coming on the trip with us, but when he’ll be ready to play is yet to be determined,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said of Lehtonen. “He’s progressing nicely, and real close to getting back.”

Lehtonen spoke for the first time since he suffered the concussion last Saturday night in a collision with Minnesota’s Erik Haula. He said he is feeling much better.

“I’m getting close to normal,” Lehtonen said. “It’s been exciting to be with the guys again.”

He said he has had concussion in the past, but not in the past four or five years. He said each day has shown improvements.

“Maybe yesterday, things were a little fast for me,” he said. “I think that is always the case when you’re not practicing for a week. It takes a day or two to get back used to it. Today was better and we are moving in the right direction.”

The Stars continue to monitor bumps and bruises. Center Cody Eakin missed Friday’s game after he suffered a foot injury when he was hit in the foot with a puck Tuesday against St. Louis. He skated early, then worked off-ice. Ruff said Eakin could be ready to play at Winnipeg on Sunday.

“I would anticipate him being ready to play,” Ruff said. “We got him out there, he felt pretty good, and as a precaution I told him to go off and get an off-ice workout.”

Shawn Horcoff is not doing as well. He was hit in practice in the upper body with a puck. He didn’t play Friday, didn’t skate Saturday and was not on the flight to Winnipeg. It’s still up in the air whether he will join the team at any point in the three-game road trip.

Alex Goligoski also missed practice, but it was more of a precaution. He is expected to play Sunday at Winnipeg. Goligoski suffered a small injury in Friday’s game, but he also is leading the Stars in average time on ice at 24:10 per game and has played in 65 of 66 games.
