Kane to have surgery on left wrist

"The feel-good event that is the Blackhawks Convention got off to a rocky start when the team announced just before Friday's opening that winger Patrick Kane will undergo surgery next week on his left wrist.

Kane, 22, is scheduled to have the operation Tuesday to repair a scaphoid fracture, an injury he aggravated while training for the upcoming season. The recovery time is six-to-eight weeks and Kane is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in mid-September.

"It was one of those things where it was kind of bothering me for a while," said Kane, who Friday was wearing a white brace with black strips holding it in place. "I thought going to the doctor he would tell me it was bruised or sprained and I would take a couple of weeks off and that would be it. He came back with the news (and) it was obviously shocking. Right now, I've kind of grown to accept it and I'm happy I'm getting it fixed."

Kane said he felt pain in his wrist during the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Canucks and had it checked out at the time but there was no sign of a fracture."
