Credit Marian Hossa with an assist — from the bench.

Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane had a plan in mind for the move he was going to make against Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak in the shootout during Tuesday night's game at the United Center and decided to share it with his linemate before taking the ice.

"I was talking to Hossa on the bench and I told him, 'I'm going to go backhand, top-shelf here,'" Kane said. "He said, 'No, go backhand, five-hole. He has a big five-hole.' All right, I'll listen to 'Hoss,' he knows a thing or two. It ended up working out."
