Just a bruised knee for Vernon Davis , 49ers say

"Just as the 49ers suspected, Vernon Davis' knee is fine. They had their standout tight end undergo an MRI exam just to be sure, but a team spokesman said Tuesday that tests revealed only a contusion.

Davis' status is listed as day to day. The team expects him to be ready to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Davis went down hard Sunday after making a 17-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter against the Raiders. Trainers attended to him along the sideline, but he was soon walking around on his own and even re-entered the game.

Davis has a touchdown catch in three consecutive games.

Vikings: The NFL's director of security interviewed Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre about his alleged role in sending inappropriate text messages and photos to former New York Jets game day host Jenn Sterger when the two were with the Jets in 2008.

Milt Ahlerich spoke with Favre in Minnesota, although the league released no details of the meeting. Favre's agent, Bus Cook, attended the session.

Favre has been under investigation since the allegations were reported earlier this month by Deadspin.com. Sterger has not spoken to the league's security staff, which could result in Favre not being disciplined by the league.

Injury updates: Vince Young is day-to-day after tests show only a mild sprained left knee and ankle, and Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said the quarterback, who was hurt in Monday night's game against Jacksonville, could play against Philadelphia on Sunday even if he misses a couple of practices. "
