Josh Smith lights out for Hawks in win

"Just call him Radar.

Josh Smith, whose unrequited infatuation with jump shots has drawn the ire of Hawks fans over the years, put on a long-distance exhibition Tuesday night.

The New Jersey Nets were his hapless foils as the Hawks had their most efficient game of offensive basketball this season, a 116-101 dismantling of the Nets.

"It was the type of game where everybody couldn't miss," said Smith, who made six of eight shots from 16 feet and beyond. "We were unselfish with the basketball, and everybody was reaping the benefits."

Perhaps none more than Smith. Playing at small forward with Joe Johnson out of the lineup because of elbow surgery, Smith made 14 of 16 shots, including both 3-point attempts. He finished with a season-high 34 points, four shy of his career best.

After the final buzzer, Smith kissed his hands and raised them toward the Philips Arena roof.

"Josh Smith was excellent again [Tuesday]," coach Larry Drew said.

For good measure, Smith added seven assists and three rebounds. Jamal Crawford added a season-high 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, and Al Horford contributed 24 with 10 rebounds.

The Hawks are now 4-1 without Johnson, their four-time All-Star who is out for the next three to five weeks after right elbow surgery last week. They have won seven of their past eight and are 15-8 overall. The Nets, who had the NBA's worst record last season, are 6-16 and have lost five in a row."
