Sidelined ace Josh Johnson will resume a throwing program Wednesday in South Florida.

If this time he can get through it without incident, Johnson could return to the rotation sometime in September for a handful of starts. Out since mid-May with shoulder inflammation, Johnson shut down his mound work at the end of June. Since then he's been limited to shoulder strengthening exercises.

"I'd like to see him come back," manager Jack McKeon said. "I think it would be a plus, but on the other hand I don't know. It depends how long it takes him to get back through his throwing process and rehab. Is it too late? If you're into the middle of September, do you want him? You might as well take the whole thing off.

"I don't think it's necessary or mandatory we get him back. If he's capable of coming back and not hurting himself, all well and good. Talking to him, I think he'd like to get back? We'll let him tell us how he feels and decide whether he's ready or not."
