The Browns can activate receiver Josh Gordon beginning today, but will likely wait until later in the week to preserve the roster spot.

Gordon, who was conditionally reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Nov. 1, is expected to play Sunday in Los Angeles against the Chargers, but the Browns have until Saturday to activate him for that game.

With the club set to travel on Friday, they're likely to activate him off the Commissioner's Exempt List before they leave, but he can still practice with the team all week.

The rule states that he's eligible to return to active status today, or remain on the exempt list for an additional week.

At this point, the 0-11 Browns have no plans to wait another week to unwrap their Christmas present.

Sources told cleveland.com that Gordon returned to the practice field on Wednesday and instantly became the best player on the roster, including No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett.
