The Detroit Lions placed tight end Brandon Pettigrew on injured reserve today with a severely sprained left ankle, ending his season with one game to play.

Pettigrew suffered his injury in a Monday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens two weeks ago.

The Lions have just one healthy tight end on their roster — rookie Joseph Fauria — though they could promote Matt Veldman from the practice squad.

Backup Dorin Dickerson missed practice today because of the brain injury he suffered Sunday against the New York Giants, and the Lions claimed return specialist Micheal Spurlock off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys to take Pettigrew’s roster spot.
