"Thirty-three has been good to Andruw Jones.
He has hit four home runs since he celebrated his 33rd birthday April 23, including two against the New York Yankees in the White Sox' 7-6 victory Saturday.
And the way the Sox have been struggling, they need whatever they can get from Jones.
Thanks to Jones' blasts and a two-run double in the seventh inning from A.J. Pierzynski, the Sox ended their five-game losing streak to the Yankees and won for the first time in new Yankee Stadium since it opened last season.
''Big win,'' Jones said. ''Everyone kept battling. We kept coming back, and we came out on top.''
Jones was a late scratch Friday with back spasms, but he was back after a night of treatment to help Paul Konerko carry a slumping offense.
Jones entered the game against former Sox right-hander Javier Vazquez hitting .392 (20-for-51) with five homers against him.
''When you face a pitcher so many times, you get comfortable,'' Jones said. ''If he lets you get comfortable, it's your advantage. He never made me uncomfortable.
''I was on his fastball, and I was on his curveball. When you start feeling like that at the beginning of the game, that's a big plus for you.''
Vazquez, who is trying to put to rest Sox manager Ozzie Guillen's claim from 2008 that he isn't a clutch pitcher, only added to that reputation. He allowed five runs and seven hits in three-plus innings and left the game to a chorus of boos. Vazquez's ERA is 9.78."
