Jon Lester looked at times last season like a pitcher barely worthy of pitching in a major-league rotation. To new manager John Farrell, Lester this spring has looked like a pitcher worthy of starting Opening Day.

Farrell made official Wednesday what has been obvious for weeks: Lester will oppose New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia at Yankee Stadium on April 1., Lester will be followed in order by Clay Buchholz and Ryan Dempster. Felix Doubront and John Lackey will pitch the first two games in Toronto, rounding out the five-man rotation.
