Granted an expansion franchise Wednesday, Las Vegas will have to move pretty quickly to find a GM and those interviews could begin as early as next week. They’ve got to have someone in place by mid-summer and that person has to assemble a scouting staff that hits the ground running because the tournaments that need to be covered begin in the summer.

The word is the people in Vegas won’t waste any time, which means former Vancouver assistant GM Laurence Gilman, former Washington GM George McPhee, Pittsburgh assistant GM Jason Botterill, former Arizona GM Don Maloney and Montreal executive Scott Mellanby are considered to be at the top of the list.
