"Enjoying a few days of recovery, a couple of the Calgary Flames top guns were back on the ice Sunday.
Olli Jokinen and Rene Bourque suited up against the Edmonton Oilers at the Saddledome Sunday, lightening a bit of the injury load for the accident-prone Flames as the pre-season came to an end.
"I could have played the last few games but decided to take it easy," Bourque said after an eight-day stretch between games while being listed as out for "general maintenance."
"I'm healthy. Just wanted to take a few days off."
Jokinen also said he was feeling fine after tweaking a muscle in a game against the Phoenix Coyotes earlier this week.
"I felt pretty good the next day, too. I guess everybody just wants to make sure it's 100%," said the big centre. "I was still skating when the team was in Edmonton. I didn't miss that much time.
"It was only one day I missed."
But getting back into a rhythm was an important thing for the Finn in the final exhibition game before Thursday's season-opener against the Oilers at Rexall Place.
"It's nice to get back and play," Jokinen said. "As a player, you want to be in the lineup the last pre-season game."
But with two returning to the roster, another pair sat out. Both David Moss (shoulder) and Ales Kotalik (knee) are sidelined indefinitely according to the team.
It sounds like it could take both a while to recover."
