"Detroit Pistons coach John Kuester was noncommittal when asked about the status of Tracy McGrady, who has not played in the past three preseason games and doesn't expect to play in the next four.

"He's working extremely hard with Arnie," Kuester said, referring to strength and conditioning coach Arnie Kander.

Kuester was asked whether he would be comfortable using McGrady in the season opener -- Oct. 27 at New Jersey -- if McGrady does not play in any more in the preseason.

"Arnie will talk about Tracy's status down the road," Kuester said. "Right now, he's just working to get right. That's all I can say right now. We'll make a judgment as time goes on.""
