Joey Votto was happy with his return after 48 games. He went 2-for-3 with a walk. He had 10 chances in the field. He even slid once.

"It went better than I expected," Votto said. "I'm very happy to be back in the lineup and play. Unfortunately, it came with a loss."

Votto was touched by the reception from the fans. The 19,267 at Great American Ball Park gave him a long standing ovation before his first at-bat. He promptly singled to left.

"He was very humbled by it, very appreciative to get support like that," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "It was unexpected."
