"Hard-throwing Joel Zumaya is working on his comeback. The question is: Will he come back to the Tigers?

The free-agent right-hander hasn't thrown in a regular-season game since 2010, and he is ready to show he can pitch again.

Zumaya told Jason Beck of MLB.com this week he would "love to go back there" in talking about the Tigers. But at the same time, Beck said Zumaya sounded like a pitcher in need of a fresh start.

"I think it's best for me that I can start somewhere new," Zumaya told MLB.com in a phone interview Wednesday night.

He is scheduled to throw a mound session for interested teams this month in Houston, where his agents are based. About 10 teams are expected to watch. Zumaya told MLB.com that the Boston Red Sox expressed interest as soon as he became a free agent."
