The Red Sox have activated Joel Hanrahan from the 15-day disabled list, Red Sox manager John Farrell said Tuesday in an interview with MLB Network Radio.

Farrell said shortly after 1 p.m. that he had not yet talked to Hanrahan about his role, but indicated Andrew Bailey was likely to keep his job.

"He's active today," Farrell said. "Before announcing what his role is, when he comes to the ballpark we'll have a chance to sit down. ... The one thing Joel is, he's honest with himself, and he understands what's going on here."

Hanrahan was out with a sore right hamstring. His activation was expected following Daniel Bard's demotion to Double-A Portland after Boston's last game on Sunday.
