Joe Mauer hit his third career home run at Target Field on Saturday, June 30, an opposite-field liner than just cleared the fence in left in a 5-1 victory over Kansas City.

"It felt good," he said. "It felt good to hit a ball out there and be rewarded for it."

Mauer hits a lot of line drives to left field, many of which are caught. Asked if this was hit any harder than most of the others he said: "Not really. I mean, I definitely got it good, but like I said, I've hit balls like that that have been caught, too. But tonight it wasn't."

Mauer and left fielder Josh Willingham are the leading candidates to represent the Twins at the All-Star Game July 10 in Kansas City. Selections are announced Sunday at 1 p.m.

Mauer, a four-time American League all-star, said there is no question he would attend if selected.

"Absolutely I'd go. That's an honor," he said. "As long as they keep wanting me to go, then I'll go. Four days (off) would be nice for the body, but if anybody asks you to go to an All-Star Game, I think you should go."
