Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has dashed Joe Hart’s hopes of a return to action this weekend.

Hart, dropped by Pellegrini after a string of costly blunders , had hoped to be recalled for Sunday’s visit of Tottenham to the Etihad Stadium .

But Pellegrini has revealed he plans to stick with Costel Pantilimon for the time being, meaning Hart’s first-team exile will continue.

“I think at this moment that maybe Joe needs a rest but we still have a lot of trust in Joe and he’s still a very important player in our squad,” said Pellegrini.

“I am absolutely sure that this will be an important thing for him to come back to his performances of the last two years.”
