Joe Girardi's days as Yankees manager could be coming to an end--but not for the reason that so many thought (hoped) after Game 2 of the ALDS.

When the Yankees playoff run ends, Girardi will be a free agent. That gives the team and Girardi options moving forward. While a new contract and Girardi continuing to manage the team is probably the most likely outcome, it's not a lock--because Girardi, not the Yankees, may choose to walk away from the relationship.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, people inside the Yankees organization have noticed a difference in Girardi's demeanor this season and have started to think about the idea of their manager simply walking away from the job.
