He hasn’t played in nine straight games. The assumption was that Jody Shelley was a healthy scratch.
On Tuesday, the club placed him on injured reserve with a hip issue.
Tuesday night, general manager Paul Holmgren told CSNPhilly.com it’s more than that.
“Jody is going to have surgery in about a week,” Holmgren said, without elaborating. He said Shelley’s hip had been bothering him quite a while and was not getting better during the practice sessions.
Shelley has played just one game this season.
Fellow forward Scott Hartnell remains out of the lineup while recovering from a fracture in his left foot.
