"The Yankees don't want to give up their top prospects for Ubaldo Jimenez, and the Rockies have said they need to get knocked over to move the right-hander.
Nevertheless, when Jimenez started last night against the Braves in Denver, the Yankees had a scout in attendance. It was the second straight outing Jimenez was watched by the Yankees.
Jimenez (6-8) pitched 6 2/3 innings in the Rockies' 12-3 victory over the Braves last night, allowing two runs and seven hits. He also had nine strikeouts and two walks.
The Yankees are reluctant to part with prized prospects Jesus Montero, Dellin Betances and Manuel Banuelos. Of course, the Yankees said the same thing about Montero last summer and then included him in the package they offered Seattle for Cliff Lee.
Though the Rockies have told teams they will listen if high-end youngsters are involved, they aren't in a rush to move the 27-year-old Jimenez, whose contract is very affordable.
He is making $2.8 million this year and $4.2 million next season. There is a club option for $5.75 million with a $1 million buyout for 2013 and a club option for $8 million and a $1 million buyout for 2014. The second option is only good if the 2013 option is exercised, and may be voided if Jimenez is dealt."
