"The Jets signed safety Gerald Alexander on Tuesday to take the roster spot of Jim Leonhard.

Alexander is a five-year veteran who has made 30 NFL starts with four interceptions. The 27-year-old most recently played for the Dolphins. He also played for the Lions, Jaguars and Panthers.

The Jets were looking to add depth to the secondary after losing Leonhard for the rest of the season in Sunday's game with the Chiefs. Leonhard tore the patellar tendon in his right knee and will have surgery Wednesday."
