Jets' shut-down specialist Darrelle Revis looking forward to rematch with Indianapolis Colts receiver Reggie Wayne

"In Darrelle Revis' view, he "didn't accomplish what I wanted to do" the last time he faced the Colts and top receiver Reggie Wayne. Asked what that meant, the Jets' All-Pro cornerback had a matter-of-fact answer.

"I didn't want him to catch any balls," Revis said. "Plain and simple."

Not that Wayne had gaudy numbers in the Jets' 29-15 win over the Colts in Week 16 — he had just three catches for 33 yards. But that was before Indianapolis pulled its starters midway through the third quarter and, in what has been a remarkable season for Revis, his standards are set sky-high.

Revis also pointed out that the Colts had a lot of missed connections in that game. Wayne was targeted seven times but only had the three catches. Tight end Dallas Clark was targeted seven times for four catches.

"Looking at the film, it was a lot of missed opportunities that they had, even with Dallas Clark," Revis said. "(Peyton Manning) overthrowing the ball sometimes or underthrowing it. It was a lot of things. We took that game in stride (in terms) of paying attention to our mistakes and moving forward."

Revis wants to make improvements the second time around. He expects he'll be moved around against several of the Colts' talented receivers — Pierre Garçon and Austin Collie included — similar to how he was used against the Chargers, but he'll of course see a lot of Wayne.

Wayne, who had 1,264 receiving yards this season, is a player Revis bills as playmaker and an excellent route runner. As Revis explained, one thing he excels at that a lot of receivers don't is he stems his routes — in other words, during the portion of his route before his break, he will lead the defensive back in one direction, then sharply plant and break the other way.

"A lot of receivers run straight up and break in 10 yards," Revis said. "He's going to set you up within those 10 yards, to get himself open. And I think that's what sums up a good route runner."

But as Revis added, when he's on his eponymous island, it's two-against-one — both the quarterback and the receiver versus him. And this week, the quarterback is Manning."
