"Jets running back Thomas Jones has refused to rework his contract and is expected to be released this week, according to a team official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to speak publicly.
Jones, who is due to earn a $3 million roster bonus on March 9 and a $2.8 million base salary in 2010, turns 32 in August. The Jets didn't want to commit that kind of money to an aging running back and wanted Jones to rework his contract.
Last season, Jones rushed for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns, both career highs. However, he faded down the stretch, rushing for just 117 yards and a touchdown on 45 carries in the postseason (2.6-yard average), raising a red flag."
